A cannon is any large tubular piece of artillary firearm designed to fire a heavy projectile over a considerable distance. The oldest evidence for the use of cannon is a relief carved by Buddhist monks in China in 1128. Since World War II the term cannon is used to refer to a gun of around 20 mm to 125 mm calibre capable of firing explosive ammunition.
